Farmers in the North West are up in arms over the new stamp duty tax

Farmers in the North West are up in arms about the new stamp duty announced in this week's budget.

Stamp duty on commercial land was increased from 2% to 6% in Tuesday Budget.

This move is going to hit middle-aged farmers especially.

Ballyshannon farmer, Andrew McStay is the Chair of the Rural Development Committee in Donegal.

He says if he was to buy a plot of land in the morning the stamp duty has now been trebled.

He told Ocean FM News this evening they have been lobbying local TDs on the issue all day and they will continue to do so until this measure is reversed:
