It has emerged that the father of Yousef Palani is suing the Criminal Assets Bureau and two government ministers over more than €350,000 gardaí seized from the family home.
Yousef Palani was sentenced to two life sentences in October last year for the double murder of Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee and twenty years for causing serious harm to Anthony Burke.
While in a Garda search for Palani’s phones and computer devices, more than €350,000 in cash in two suitcases was discovered.
The cash was subsequently confiscated and has remained in garda custody ever since.
However, The Irish Independent is reporting Palani’s father Juma is now suing the State for the return of the money.
It is reported that Mr Palani issued legal proceedings against the Criminal Assets Bureau in the High Court on October 15 and is represented in the action by a local legal firm.
He is also suing the Chief Appeals Officer, who adjudicates on Cab appeals, as well as the Social Protection Minister, the Justice Minister and the Attorney General.
