Fears Donegal fish quota could be lost to Cork

There are fears that up to ten million euro worth of fishing quota could be transferred from Donegal to Cork.

A review of fishing quota is now taking place and it is causing concern among fishermen, particularly because of the uncertainty already aroused by Brexit.

Among the strongest opponents of any quota transfer are mackerel fishers, who have about two dozen large boats based in Killybegs

Agriculture Minister Michael Creed is under pressure from fishermen in his Cork constituency, and the Irish South And West Fish Producers Organisation based in Castletownbere.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Donegal Minister of State Joe McHugh says it's a serious concern for Donegal and Killybegs fishermen, some of whom may have big debts and loans to pay off.
