A Sligo councillor has hit out at politicians making announcements of increased funding for housing when, in practice, application forms are not being accepted.
In Sligo, a backlog of applications is taking up currently available funding for certain grants.
Sligo Fine Gael Councillor Hubert Keaney says the reason there's a shortfall in funding in Sligo is because the council cannot come up with matching funding.
But Fianna Fail Councillor Rosaleen O Grady says when people hear announcements of extra government funding for housing, they often mistakenly think their applications will be successful.
She says it's a particular problem for older people and those with disabilities who need housing grants:
