A Fine Gael TD is supporting calls for the retention of the 9% VAT rate for the hospitality sector.
It comes as it was revealed today that the Sligo City Hotel is reopening on March 1st - the same day that the VAT rate is set to return to 13.5% - a major bone of contention for the sector.
The reopening of the hotel on Quay Street will see the creation of 40 new jobs with more positions to be added over time.
Speaking to Ocean FM news today, Deputy Frank Feighan says it's a major boost for the town but agreed that an extension of the current VAT rate would be the right call:
