The Donegal Fire Service has described claims made by Letterkenny firefighters as ‘inaccurate, untrue, self-serving and deeply misleading.’
Last week, the Donegal Firefighters Association released a statement, warning of catastrophic consequences due to an unfolding crisis.
Firefighters claimed that cuts to crew numbers and the removal of essential equipment are ‘threatening public safety’.
In a statement issued today, Donegal County Council Fire Service Management wish to refute the claims in the strongest manner possible.
Such scaremongering they say is deeply unfair to the people served by the Donegal County Council Fire Service and that it is not acceptable to fire service management that staff members make such comments.
In that context, fire service management will be discussing this matter with the Letterkenny firefighters in the coming days.
Concluding, Donegal County Council Fire Service Management reassured the public that public safety remains of paramount importance to the Fire Service and that the necessary resources required to respond to emergencies are and will continue to be made available to Fire Service personnel.
