A Sligo secondary school that feared closure last year is now safe for the next five years.
A major campaign ensured that St Mary’s College in Ballisodare in County Sligo remained open after
the trustees — the Catholic Education Irish Schools Trust or CEIST — confirmed it has deferred a proposed closure
Now, the Department of Education has committed to funding the school for the next five years.
Sligo Councillor Marie Casserly is a teacher in the school.
She says the latest news is a welcome boost and gives certainty to students, parents and teachers.
