Former councillor declines Seanad nominations . . . but says he's not finished with politics

A former Sligo Fianna Fail councillor has declined nominations to run for the Seanad.

It follows speculation that Ballymote-born teacher Keith Henry, who lost his council seat in 2019, would seek a Seanad seat, having received nominations to run on the Cultural and Educational Panel.

He has served as director of elections for his cousin, former TD Eamon Scanlon; was chairman of Ogra Fianna Fail, the youth wing of the party; and was also the party's international officer.

And he says he has not ruled out allowing his name to go forward in future national or local elections.

In the meantime, he told Ocean FM why he has decided to decline nominations from two nominating bodies to seek a seat in the next seanad.
