Former IT Sligo President appointed as Technological University President

A former IT Sligo president and Donegal professor has been named as the first President of a new technological university.

Prof Vincent Cunnane has been named President of Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest by Minister Simon Harris.

He is the outgoing Limerick IT president and a native of Stranorlar in Co. Donegal.

The term is eight years in length with Professor Cunnane taking the position from the 1st of October, when the new University officially opens.

The new technological university will be the third of it's kind in Ireland with Miinster Harris saying it will be a 'new powerhouse university, driving development and investment across the Midlands and Midwest regions.'
