Former Leitrim Deputy Principal calls for more emphasis on day-to-day learning

A former Leitrim Deputy Principal has said the bureaucracy surrounding teaching has led to nine out of 10 teachers say teaching has become more stressful and demanding.

In research published by the Irish National Teachers' Organisation, teachers believe they're spending too much time on paperwork, which doesn't improve the quality of teaching or learning.

While, school leaders such as principals and deputy principals work an average of 15 extra hours a week on school-related work.
