Four North West nursing homes included in latest HIQA reports

Four nursing homes in the North West have been included in the latest round of HIQA's inspection reports.

50 reports have been published by the health watchdog today.

Three nursing homes in Donegal, Áras Mhic Shuibhne in Laghey, Ballyshannon Community Hospital and Falcarragh Community Hospital all saw inspections carried out across June and July of this year.

Áras Mhic Shuibhne received a glowing report, and was found to be compliant overall with all regulations. The report noted residents were supported with enjoying a satisfactory quality of life. The residents' feedback was very positive regarding their satisfaction with the level of care and service they received in the centre.

Falcarragh Community Hospital also received full marks, with no non-compliances detected in their most recent inspection.

There was also high praise for Ballyshannon Community Hospital, as they were found to be compliant in all but one regulation. The inspection found the centre to be in breach of notification of incidents, as the provider had not notified the Chief Inspector in writing about two injury-related incidents that had occurred in the centre within three working days of their occurrence.

Ballinamore Nursing Unit in Leitrim had five non-compliances in total, with the inspection finding breaches in Governance and Management, Premises, Fire Precautions, Health Care and Residents Rights.

They will now have to submit compliance plans to demonstrate how they will make improvements and come into compliance with the regulations.
