Four work-related north west fatalities in 2023

There were four work-related fatalities in the north west in 2023.

Figures published this morning by the Health and Safety Authority show that there were two in Leitrim and one each in Sligo and Donegal.

Those figures are part of the 83 fatal accidents that were investigated by the authority in 2023, 43 of which were deemed work-related.

The majority of those 43 occurred in agriculture, which accounted for 20 deaths, and construction, which accounted for 11 deaths.

Despite the 2023 figure of 43 being higher than the 2022 figure of 27, the HSA say there has been an overall decrease in work-related fatalities per 100,000 workers in Ireland over the past ten years.
