A 49-year old priest who has been based in Sligo for the past 20 years is beginning his new role as a bishop.
Michael Duignan has been installed as Bishop of Clonfert, which covers east Galway as well as a small part of his native County Roscommon and County Offaly.
Fr Duignan had been a curate in the Sligo cathedral parish and later chaplain at IT Sligo.
He was also curate in Cliffoney as well as a teacher and lecturer at St Angela's College in Sligo.
He later became chairman of the Summerhill College board of management and Elphin Diocesan secretary.
Asked about the challenges he faces as a bishop, particularly from those who have lost the faith, this was his response.
