Funding announced for projects in towns in Sligo and Leitrim

Funding announced for projects in towns in Sligo and Leitrim

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has today announced over €670,000 to benefit 3 towns in Co Sligo and €739,000 to benefit 4 towns in Leitrim.

The funding is being provided under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme as part of Our Rural Future and places a strong emphasis on projects which tackle vacancy and dereliction by bringing landmark town centre buildings back to life.

€250,000 has been announced for the Sligo Folk Park in Riverstown which will provide opportunities for remote working and upgrade the buildings there to include energy efficiencies.

Meanwhile, over €230,000 will finance the redevelopment of underutilised space in St Farnan’s community hall in Templeboy to provide a remote working hub.

Elsewhere, €189,351 will finance the refurbishment of part of the Teeling Community Centre in Collooney and assist with the refurbishment of a vacant former computer training space open plan and enclosed remote workstations and a dedicated meeting and conference room.

Manorhamilton is set to receive just over €113,000 to deliver a streetscape enhancement scheme to revitalise the appearance of the town core installing pride and making it more vibrant and a more attractive place to live and work.

Funding of €135,000 has been granted to upgrade facilities and amenities at the Lough Allen Education Centre in Drumshanbo to maximise visitor numbers and to develop a marketing plan for the venue.

Over €435,000 has been allocated to Carrick-on-Shannon for the further development of the Market Yard as a Venue to host community and charity events including festivals, fun days as well as creating a town centre tourist kiosk and Café.

While €55,042 will deliver a community café, a painting scheme alongside new trees and signage for KIltyclogher.
