Funding has been approved to fill five new consultant positions at Sligo University Hospital.
The funding is for the positions of consultant nephrologist, consultants in acute medicine; in ear, nose and throat surgery, infectious disease and trauma and orthopaedics.
The announcement comes on the back of a number of construction projects currently, or soon to take place, at the hospital.
These include a new two-storey modular extension at the front of the hospital.
Speaking to Ocean FM News, Minister of State for Public Health and Sligo/Leitrim TD Frank Feighan says the new construction works and the filling of new consultant positions will help the hospital to 'grow and develop'.
