Further questions are being asked over why Sligo University Hospital and the North West were omitted from a national plan for surgical hubs.
Late last year, it was confirmed that the new hospital planned for Galway would cater for the wider North West region for certain procedures and surgeries.
A total of five such hubs are to be established - all located in the bottom half of the country.
There's ongoing concern over the length patients will have to travel from Sligo, Leitrim and south Donegal for treatment.
