Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has committed his support to a new Garda Station for Sligo.
The current building on Pearse Road has long been flagged as not fit for purpose.
Assessments of the existing building are nearing conclusion - it’s expected that this will prove that it’s no longer suitable.
This assessment is set to be completed later this month, according to Sligo Chief Superintendent Aidan Glackan.
He has also confirmed today that the Commissioner has expressed his full support for a new station.
Once the assessment is finished, the documentation will be sent to the Justice Minister for consideration.
Chief superintendent Glackan has also expressed that there is a will and desire among Garda management in Sligo for a new station.
It’s hoped that the project will move to the next stage shortly.
