Gardai in the North West will be conducting an operation slow down this week.
Its part of their ongoing efforts to make the roads safety for everyone.
The latest National Slow Down Day will begin on Friday December 20th at 7am and will run for a 24 hour period.
In a statement, Gardai that speeding continues to be one of the leading causes of collisions, serious injuries and fatalities on our roads.
Despite regular reminders and enforcement efforts, they still detect hundreds of drivers exceeding speed limits every day.
National Slow Down Days are about more than enforcement - they're about saving lives.
By driving within the speed limit, motorists reduce the likelihood of a collision and the severity of injuries should one occur.
Motorists are being urged to check their speed before setting off and regularly during their journey and to remember that speed limits are a maximum, not a target.
