The government has firmly ruled out a commission of investigation into the violent death of a priest that was formerly based in St Anne’s Parish in Sligo.

Fr Niall Molloy was killed in Richard and Theresa Flynn's mansion in Clara, Co Offaly, in 1985.

Richard Flynn was the only person charged in connection with his death - but he was cleared of manslaughter in 1986.

In the Dáil last night, Sligo Leitrim Deputy Martin Kenny called for a commission of inquiry to take place into the death of Fr Niall Molloy.

Fr Molloy's nephew, Bill Maher, says the response is a big let-down to his family, in their long campaign for justice.
