The Sligo Travellers Support Group says tougher sanctions have to be imposed on organisations and individuals found guilty of abusing travellers.
Submissions lodged with the Seanad public-consultation committee are claiming that Irish Travellers are still being subjected to bullying, hate-speech and discrimination.
Traveller organisations are due to speak in the Seanad for the first time since they were recognised as an ethnic minority today.
