Greenway campaigner says money being 'wasted' on bridge

€70,000 the Minister for Transport plans to 'waste' putting up a railway bridge that will be never used could be better spent on a feasibility study for the Sligo Greenway Co-op.

That's according to Brendan Quinn of the Western Rail Trail who wants to see the railway-line between Athenry and Collooney developed as a greenway.

He hit out at Minister Shane Ross this week for approving money towards a new bridge along this old unused railway line that had to be knocked as part of the work on the new motorway in Galway.

Mr. Quinn says spending €70,000 on such work is a complete waste of taxpayers money.

He says it could be better spent towards a greenway feasibility study currently being carried out by the Sligo Greenway Co-op for the section of the railway between Collooney and Bellaghy:
