Harkin calls for early opening for non-essential retail

A Sligo Leitrim TD has called for non-essential retail to be opened sooner than December

NPHET doesn't anticipate recommending any level 5 restrictions being relaxed before December.

Independent TD Marian Harkin says the Government promised restrictions would be reviewed after four weeks.

The Government and Retail Excellence have however appealed to shop owners to abide by the rules amid reports that some non-essential retailers are justifying opening by stocking small amounts of items classed as essential, while some essential retailers are continuing to sell items considered non-essential.
