Amid what are now all-out efforts to control the spread of the coronavirus, a Sligo/Leitrim TD has appealed for people not to cross the border into Northern Ireland to go drinking tomorrow, St Patrick's Day.
Deputy Marian Hakin is making the plea after reports of people planning to get around pub closures here in the Republic by going to the North for St Patrick's Day celebrations.
She told Ocean FM News that anyone doing so is reckless and irresponsible in the extreme as they may infect family, friends and others on their return home.
She said she has not commented so far on the coronavirus but was now doing so because she received a number of calls from people who were concerned about others going over the border tomorrow.

Deputy Harkin said one had only to look at the situations in Italy and South Korea to see what works in preventing the spread of the virus.
