A Sligo/Leitrim TD says there is now a crisis in the early-years childcare sector because of low wages for workers and high costs for parents.
Speaking the Dail last night, Independent Deputy Marian Harkin pleaded with Childrens Minister Roderic O Gorman to provide €75m for the sector in the coming budget for the coming year.
She spoke first about the low wages being paid to chicare workers.

She also highlighted the high costs paid by parents in Ireland for chilcdcare compared to other countriesd in Europe.
