Sligo County Council have begun using stencils along footpaths warning walkers not to allow their dogs to foul on the path.

The motion was raised in the council by Fianna Fail Councillor Keith Henry during the summer, with the aim of it being rolled out county wide as soon as possible.

The stencils are spray-painted onto the paths.

The aim of the scheme is to alert dog walkers about the effects dog fouling can have not just on the beauty of the area, but also the negative health effects it can have.

Cllr. Henry says that they stand out more than a traditional sign post.
