HSE confirm that process to fill consultant positions at Sligo’s Chronic Pain Clinic is ongoing

It's emerged that recruitment for two consultant positions at Sligo's Chronic Pain clinic is still ongoing.

The service at Sligo University Hospital was thrown into disarray in June of last year, after the two consultants both moved to new roles in other hospitals.

Following a question submitted by the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Cllr Declan Bree at the latest sitting of the Regional Health Forum, the HSE has confirmed that recruitment to fill these two vacant Consultant Anaesthetic posts in the Pain service in Sligo is actively ongoing.

The permanent posts were advertised and the closing date for applications had been 13th February.

The HSE has further stated that shortlisting dates are currently being agreed via the Public Applications Service with interview board nominees which are likely to take place by early March.

In the interim, while the process for the permanent filling of posts is undertaken, the HSE say that temporary posts advertisements have been active in all appropriate websites and agencies.

One temporary post has been offered and they are waiting confirmation that this is accepted with the start date likely March / April.

In July 2024, a temporary Consultant began to oversee the governance of the Pain Management and Education Programme which has allowed the programme continue as normal.
