The Christmas period is the busiest time for out-of-hours GP services.
That's according to Dr. Martin Coyne, the Clinical Lead GP for the NOWDOC service which is the out-of-hours service for Donegal and Leitrim.
He says last year over Christmas they were dealing with 40 to 45 calls per hour.
The HSE is urging people to be aware of the Christmas hours of this service and the new Sligo service as well which are available online.

Dr. Coyne is emphasising that this is NOT an emergency service and he has this advice for reducing the need to call them over Christmas:
