The President of Ireland largest farming organisation has accused the Minister for Agriculture, Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue of putting the livelihoods of farmers in his own constituency and in the North West at major risk by refusing to amend details of the CAP plan which was passed by cabinet before Christmas and submitted to Europe.
Tim Cullinan accused Minister McConalogue of “talking at” farmers and not properly engaging on the Government's plans for its implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy in 2023.
The IFA has been highly critical of the proposed CAP strategic plan claiming it does not strike the right balance between environmental, economic and social sustainability.
The president of the IFA says a recent warning by the EU in relation to red meat being linked with cancer is another major blow to farmers in this region.
Speaking to Ocean FM Tim Cullinan called on the Minister to amend the details of the Cap Plan and give suckler farmers in the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal a chance of enjoying some type of future in farming.
