In-patient fees for public hospitals scrapped from today

A Sligo Cllr has described the abolishment of in-patient charges as a positive development for the 'squeezed middle'.

The charge of 80 Euro per day or 800 Euro per year ended at midnight under measures signalled in Budget 2023.

It's anticipated that the ending of day charges removes the burden on financially-stretched individuals requiring hospital treatment.

Cllr Donal Gilroy who is also a member of the Regional Health Forum says it was an unfair charge and hopes that it won't be reintroduced in the future:
