Increase in road deaths in Donegal

County Donegal recorded the highest number of road fatalities in the north west in 2024.

Figures published by the Road Safety Authority show that the county saw an increase to 17 deaths on roads in 2024 compared to 10 in 2023.

Similar to the previous year’s figures, Sligo recorded 4 road deaths while a decrease of 2 was recorded in Leitirm where fatalities totalled 1.

Nationally, a total of 174 people died in 160 fatal collisions in 2024 compared to 181 deaths in 170 collisions in 2023.

This represents a decrease of 7 deaths or a 4% drop in road deaths compared to last year.

Dublin recorded the highest number of fatalities with 23 while Cork and Mayo both recorded 19.
