Indian community in Sligo have a keen interest in the Fine Gael race

As the race for Fine Gael leader and future Taoiseach continues, members of the Indian community here are among those with a keen interest in what's happening.

And none more so than in Sligo, where there's a vibrant Indian community with its own Association.

Front-runner Leo Varadkar's father is Indian, who moved to England as a doctor in the 1960s.

Leo's mother, a nurse, is from County Waterford.

The family settled in Dublin in 1973.

Dr Shyam Pathak is a member of the Indian Association in Sligo and a lecturer in NUI Galway.

He has been telling Ocean FM News of their pride in the links between Ireland and India and in Minister Varadkar's achievements so far.
