A hiker has been rescued after getting into difficulty on Benbulben Mountain over the weekend.
The woman was a member of a group of charity walkers who were descending the mountain when she lost her footing and fell.
Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team were tasked to the Lukes Bridge area on Benbulben Mountain on Saturday by the National Ambulance Service, where a 57-year-old female had suffered a serious lower leg injury.
Eight Mountain Rescue Team members responded to the incident.
The casualty was assessed by a team medic, who treated the casualty for a dislocated knee. Her limb was splinted, she was stabilised and transferred onto the stretcher.
The conditions underfoot were said to be very treacherous due to the recent rainfall the previous night.
The casualty was stretchered out by the team where the descent was slow and cautious but steady on what was very wet and slippy ground.
The team employed a break rope system to stabilise the stretcher and to ensure the safest route to descend.
The woman was brought to a car park where the casualty was transferred by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital.
The woman’s lower leg injury was serious but not life-threatening.
