A former president of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, Donegal native Martina Harkin Kelly, says there are health and safety concerns as record overcrowding continues in Irish hospitals today.
Her comments come as the INMO is warning of a major challenges facing Hospitals with the number of peoples on trollies reaching its highest today since the start of the pandemic.
107 people in the North West's two main hospitals are currently waiting for hospital beds.
According to the INMO trolley watch figures there are 61 at Letterkenny University hospital and 46 at Sligo University Hospital.
Letterkenny University and Sligo University Hospitals are among the top three most over-crowded.
University Hospital Limerick the worst hit where there are 79 people waiting on a hospital bed.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is calling for individual plans to tackle overcrowding in each hospital.
Martina Harkian-Kelly who trained as a nurse in Sligo, says the it's a major issue in the north west.
