The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has said that it has no choice but to consult with its members resulting from persistent hospital overcrowding which is not being taken seriously as a workers' health issue by the HSE.

This comes as 51 people were waiting for a bed at Sligo University Hospital this morning, making it the second most overcrowded hospital in Ireland today.

Nationally, there were 457 patients are without a bed in Irish hospitals today, including 101 patients in University Hospital Limerick.

The INMO has requested that the Emergency Department Taskforce meet as a matter of urgency three times and the response the say from the HSE has been inadequate.
