Irish EU Flood Management Plan due two years ago

A North West Sinn Fein MEP is calling for the government to finally submit a plan to deal with flooding as required under EU legislation.

Matt Carthy has made the calls following on from the devastating flooding on the Inishown peninsula in North Donegal this week.

The EU Floods Directive requires each member state to submit a Flood Management Plan and the deadline to do so was two years ago.

Matt Carthy says when the plan is put in place there is still a lengthy process needed to implement the measures needed to prevent the type of flooding seen in north Donegal this week.

Speaking to Ocean FM Today, he said it's time for the government to honour their obligations on flooding in the interests of all communities:

He also says groups like the farming community are often the ones who are hit first:
