Irish Water has lodged a planning application for emergency upgrade works at the Lough Talt Water Treatment Plant in South Sligo.
Irish Water have previously said that a boil water notice in South Sligo will remain in place until the Lough Talt treatment plant is upgraded.
A boil water notice, affecting 13,000 customers on the Lough Talt water supply, is now entering its fifth month.
Local Cllr Paul Taylor says a new Treatment Plant would ensure a secure, clean, safe drinking water supply for the people of the area:
