Joseph Gilhooly has been appointed as the new CEO of Leitrim County Council.
He’s the first person from Leitrim to be appointed to the position.
The appointment comes following an independent recruitment process carried out by the Public Appointments Service recently.
Mr. Gilhooly has been the Council’s interim Chief Executive since the departure of the previous Chief Executive, Lar Power, in September 2023.
In a statement, Leitrim County Council say that he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the County to the position of Chief Executive having worked for over 30 years with the Council with some prior private sector work experience.
His experience was initially in the finance operations, financial management and corporate governance areas while he has worked for over 20 years at senior management level in the areas of Planning, Economic and Tourism Development and Regeneration, Community and Cultural services, Infrastructure provision, Environmental Management and has led the initiation, development and delivery of a variety of capital investments.
A native of the County, originally from Drumshanbo and now living in Carrick on Shannon and Mr. Gilhooly has the distinction of being the first Leitrim person to be appointed to the position of Chief Executive with Leitrim County Council.
