A Sligo/Leitrim TD says Garda Commissioner Noirin O Sullivan's resignation does not remove the problem within the police force.
Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny says the public haS lost trust and respect for those in the upper ranks of the force.
Although the Commissioner has been the focus of a number of inquiries and investigations, her shock resignation was not expected when it was announced yesterday evening.
She said the job had become about attending hearings and responding to inaccurate commentary, rather than actually getting on with reforming the force.
