A Sligo/Leitrim TD has called on the government to bring forward the introduction of a 'yellow card' system in relation to farm inspections.
Such a scheme would allow farmers a certain amount of time in which to come in line with standards in relation to the running of their farms.
The government promised to introduce such a scheme as part of its programme for government.
Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny has called on the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to fast track a similar scheme as soon as possible so as to relax the demands on farmers.
Speaking during a session of leader's questions in the Dáil this week, Deputy Kenny described some farm inspections as 'over-zealous'.
