Killybegs fishermen want to see EU document that allegedly makes allegations against them

The chief executive officer of the Killybegs Fishermen's Organisation is calling on the European Commission to release a report which allegedly makes a range of damaging allegations against the fishing sector.

The contentious report is linked to the introduction of a regulation earlier this year which resulted in fish having to be weighed at piers rather in factories, which was traditionally the case.

Sean O Donoghue says since fishermen have never seen the actual audit report nor the findings of an investigation, they only learned anecdotally that it was found Ireland lacked a weighing system fit for purpose.

He says the fishing industry is being denied natural justice and the basic right to be told what it might stand accused of.
