Kite surfer rescued after getting into difficulty at Strandhill

A kite surfer has been rescued after getting into difficulty off Strandhill beach.

The Sligo Bay lifeboat was tasked to the scene by the Coast Guard at around 3.10pm yesterday, after the alarm was raised by a member of the public.

The volunteer lifeboat crew arrived on the scene ten minutes later, by which time two surfers had paddled out to assist the kite surfer who had become tangled in his equipment.

The man was uninjured, and was able to make his own way back to shore.

Rescue 118 was also on the scene.

There were also a couple of RNLI crew who happened to be in Strandhill at the time, and had made their way to the shoreline to assist.

The lifeboat was stood down by the Coast Guard and made its way back to the station in Rosses Point to refuel and be ready for training yesterday evening.
