Land has been purchased beside Ballinafad Castle in Sligo to allow easy access for visitors.
Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Josepha Madigan confirmed the purchase beside the national monument.
The area will be developed to allow visitors to access the site without passing over private property.
Local Senator and Fine Gael general election candidate, Frank Feighan says it will also allow the Office of Public Works to carry out repair works.
