Large number of North West National Transport Authority projects get funding for 2024

A number of projects across the North West are set to benefit from significant funding from the National Transport Authority.

€290m is to be invested nationwide for 2024, bringing the Government's total investment since 2020 to over €1bn euro.

In total, almost €11m will be invested in projects in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal this year.

Donegal will get the biggest share of an initial €4.5m, with Sligo to receive slightly over €3m, and Leitrim getting €1.9m.

Some of the biggest projects in Donegal include the Donegal Town One Way Active Travel Scheme receiving €650,000, Ballyshannon to Bundoran Active Travel Cycle Scheme getting €600,000, and Scoil Aodh Ruadh agus Nuala in Donegal getting €50,000 under the Safe Routes to School scheme.

Similarly, in Leitrim, St Clare's NS in Manorhamilton will also benefit from the Safe Routes to School scheme, as its in line to receive €110,000. Other big investments include the Manorhamilton Park Road upgrade getting €120,000, Dromahaire Churchfield Active Travel link getting €110,000, and Leitrim County Council Active Travel Office Staff Costs coming in at €320,000.

The highlights in Sligo include Carraroe to the GAA Pitch Active Travel Scheme at €255,000, St Johns National School receiving €230,000 under the Safe Routes to School scheme, and Collooney to Ballisodare Active Travel Projects getting €150,000.

All three local authorities will also get €500,000 each through the Bus Stop Enhancement Programme.
