A Leitrim group that is opposed to mining and prospecting in the county is calling on Sligo County Council to support them.
Treasure Leitrim is asking councillors to support a motion from Solidarity People Before Profit Councillor Gino O Boyle calling on Green Party Minister Eamon Ryan to refuse to grant a prospecting licence to a mining company for almost 50 townlands in Leitrim.
The motion is expected to come before next Monday's meeting of Sligo County COuncil.
A similar motion has already been unanimously supported by councillors in Leitrim.
Treasure Leitrim Spokesman Jamie Murphy says seeking the support of local councillors is another part of their campaign.
