Leitrim County Council are to contact the Minister for Justice Helen McEntee to explore the prospect of funding to finance the extending the Manorhamilton CCTV cameras system to other locations in north Leitrim.
The topic was discussed at this week's meeting of the local council where all councillors on the Municipal District had tabled a motion for the system be extended.
The motion was tabled following recent incidents of rural crime in the north west.
Cllr Mary Bohan says the extension of such a system would provide peace of mind for many people in the north Leitrim area.
She says government funding should be provided and to place the burden of funding on local community groups
