This week's meeting of the Manorhamilton Municipal District has heard how the efforts of a community group in Drumkeerin to develop a popular tourism location is being prohibited by difficulties in securing funding.
Local Councillor Mary Bohan tabled two separate motions in relation to the creation of a walkway from Drumkeerin to the nearby Spencer Harbour and for a slipway to be provided at the amenity for local residents to launch small boats at the harbour.
The Fianna Fáil Councillor says it's unfair to expect a Tidy Towns Group to have to the skillsets and necessary resources to meet all the criteria necessary to secure funding for ambitious projects that would enhance communities:
