Leitrim Councillor expresses concern over planning permission being given for new power plant in Kerry

Concern is being raised in Leitrim over a power plant being granted planning permission in Kerry.

 

An Bord Pleanala have granted Shannon LNG Limited permission to develop a battery storage system and a substation.

The company want to construct a power plant, battery energy storage system and a re-gasification unit, on a 630-acre site between Tarbert and Ballylongford in Co Kerry.

 

In its decision, An Bord Pleanála said the plan as in line with climate legislation, and provides much needed flexibility given the large amount of renewable energy on the grid.
