Leitrim has highest vacancy rate in Ireland

County Leitrim has the highest vacancy rate in the country.

It’s one of the key findings in the latest report from GeoDirectory.

The residential vacancy rate was 8.2% in Sligo Q4 2024. This was higher than the national average of 3.8%.

The highest vacancy rates in the country can be found in the west of Ireland, with Leitrim at 11.8% which was the highest in the country and Donegal at 9%.

365 new residential address points were added to the GeoDirectory database in Sligo throughout 2024.

There were 242 buildings under construction in Sligo in December 2024.

Construction activity was weakest in Longford where only 85 buildings were under construction, followed by Leitrim at 121.

20,092 residential address points across the State were classified as derelict in Q4 2024, with 5.6% of these properties located in Sligo.
The highest concentration of derelict properties was recorded in Mayo (14.0%), followed by Donegal (11.6%) and Galway (8.8%).

The lowest average prices were recorded in Leitrim at €190,000.
