Pupils in Leitrim are being educated in the most overcrowded classrooms in the north west.

On average 59.5 % of pupils in the county are being thought in classes of 25 or more - well ahead of the EU norm of 20 and an average across the developing world of 21.

Donegal follows close behind with  58.8% of pupils in above average size classes while Sligo has 56% of pupils in a similar situation.

A new report shows nationally our class sizes are the second biggest in Europe at 24.3 pupils.
