County Leitrim has once again recorded the lowest number of new homes under construction in the country.
It’s one of the key findings in the latest monthly data released by the Department of Housing.
The statistics, published this afternoon, show the number of new homes under construction as of December 2024 - the total number of all new home commencements last year across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal was 1719. This is almost double 2023s figure of 865 for the three counties.
Donegal had the highest number of homes under construction at the end of 2024 at, 1178 followed by Sligo 440. Both Donegal and Sligo have recorded a substantial jump in the amount of houses being built when compared to the data for 2023.
Leitrim had a total 101 new homes under construction at the end of last year – the lowest number in Ireland.
The figure also reflects a slight fall when compared to the 129 homes under construction in Leitrim in 2023.
Nationally, the outlook is seemingly positive, with the Government stating that a milestone has been reached with over 60,000 new homes under construction across the country in 2024.
